The 1967 6-Day War
"Lo, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling...a heavy stone;
all who lift it shall grievously hurt themselves...all the nations of the earth." - Zech. 12:3
While 1917 saw the end of the "times of the gentiles"
in Palestine, the outcome of the 1967 6-day Mideast War
saw prophecy filfilled in a truly remarkable way. The Holy
Land - including Judea, Samaria and old Jerusalem - was
reclaimed by Jacob's progeny after thousands of years of
occupation by foreign powers.
The prophet Daniel foretold that the "sanctuary and
host" (Jerusalem and the House of Judah) would be
given over to the wicked for "2300 evenings and
mornings" (Dan. 8:14). Inasmuch as God declares a "day
for a year" (Ezek. 4:6), the 2300 clearly refers to the
time between Alexander's conquest of the Mideast in
334 BC (Dan. 7:6) and the year 1967. (There was no year 0.)
For those who point out that Jesus Christ is the embodiment
of God's "Sanctuary and Host" and that He was with us
during this period, consider that this interval is also
exactly 2300 PROPHETIC years of 360 days each...when you
subtract the 33 years of Jesus' life as a mortal !
Other remarkable intervals that appear:
This event occured during the first Jubilee (50th)
year back in Palestine. God commanded that Holy Land
be restored to its original owner and that all Hebrew
bondsmen (slaves) be freed during a Jubilee year
(see Lev. 25).
The culmination of the 6-Day War ended exactly 1290
days before a Kislev 24 (God's promised day of blessing
in the Book of Haggai). Daniel 12:11 speaks of the
importance of the 1290 days relative to the holy oblation
being taken away.
During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War TransJordan (Jordan) seized
old Jerusalem and Israel was hindered by United Nations
actions from attempting to retake it. Previously the number
19 has been associated with a period of hindering in Biblical
history - as was the case in the reconstruction of the 2nd
Temple (see Ezra 4). The 1967 Mideast War saw a reclamation
of old Jerusalem exactly 19 years after the UN's hindering actions
of 1948, suggesting that this event - like 1917 - was indeed
providential !
While 1967 saw the House of Judah (Judah and Benjamin)
reclaim the land of their forefathers just as God promised, they will possess it for
but a short season. Heathen and hostile forces are prophecied to again seize Palestine soon.
