"Behold, you are relying now on Egypt; that broken
reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it."-
II Kings 18:21
In Haggai 2 there is a perpetual promise from God to bless His people on the 24th day of the 9th month (Kislev). In Daniel 12 there is a promise of a blessing for those who wait 1335 days. So, what happens when the 1335 coincides with Kislev 24? What is at the start of the 1335 days? There have been several occasions in recent years where important events involving nations of prophecy did occur at this well-defined point in time. In 1991 the Warsaw Pact military alliance (Gog of Magog in Ezekiel) disbanded, in 1986 the Chernobyl nuclear reactor melted down in the Ukraine, in 1985 Gorbachev made his "covenant" with NATO (see page devoted to discussion of Gorbachev covenant) and in 1977 a "prince" from Egypt came forth.
Egypt, both literally and allegorically, is a key player in end-times prophecy (see Joel 3, Ezek. 29, et al). Exactly 3 1/2 prophetic years (1260 days) from the end of the October, 1973, Yom Kippur War Egyptian President Anwar Sadat travelled to Washington, D.C., to become the first of many Arab leaders to lobby for a Palestinian homeland and, with it, peace in the Middle East. His 2-day peace initiative ended exactly 1335 days before a Kislev 24 on the night of April 5. Close scrutiny of when subsequent events occurred reveals that this initiative ultimately became a "covenant" for a "seven" (see Daniel 9).
Peace between Egypt and Israel was realized in the Camp David accords of September 1978. Then, in the spring of the following year, the accords were formally signed and ratified. When the peace agreement took effect, it was to be for a period of five years. The Israeli Knesset ratified the accords on Nisan 4 (1979). Five years later Nisan 4 on the Hebrew/Jewish calendar was April 6. Thus, from the date of Anwar Sadat's initiation of the peace process till the agreement expired was exactly 7 years: April 6, 1977 to April 6, 1984.
While this event did not have all of the elements put forth in Daniel's prophecy, it certainly had enough to merit consideration. A "prince" came and initiated what would become a "covenant for a seven" and he did it exactly "1335" days before a Kislev 24.
Though Egypt showed great courage and initiative in becoming the
first Arab country to seek peace with Israel, she is prophecied to suffer
a fate even worse than Israel in the coming Day of Wrath (Joel 3:19). The
prophet Ezekiel foretold that Egypt would become an uninhabited land of
"utter waste and desolation" for forty years as punishment for
her treachery against Israel. And, even after forty years of desolation,
will recover only enough to become the "most lowly of... kingdoms".
(Ezek.29:10-15 Amplified) What is the treachery that Egypt will commit
against Israel ? While there is no way to know for certain, Persia, Libya
and Cush (Sudan/Ethiopia) are prophecied to come against Israel at the
time of the End (Ezek. 38:5, Dan. 11:43). Geographically 2 of these countries
are separated from Israel by Egypt. Thus, Egypt must grant safe passage
to these foreign armies through its territory for prophecy to be fulfilled.
SUPPLEMENTAL NEWS ITEM:
Libya, one of the 3 nations prophecied to come against Palestine at the time of the end, has proposed a union with Egypt. Libyan dictator Muammar Gadaffi, on a recent visit to Cairo, told Egyptian officials that the two states should capitalize on Egypt's water resources and Libya's crude oil potential in order to "frustrate the Zionist designs against the Arab nation." In a speech delivered in Cairo and broadcast on Libyan television, Gadaffi stated that he has been "in favor of such a union for some time now."
